Rock Climbing Director and Director of Camp Spirit
Dave grew up in Buffalo, NY. He prides himself as a Buffalonian, stating “if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere”. After volunteering with local youth groups he began to find a joy in working with young people; and as his passion for the outdoors grew he watched as the two began to meld together into exciting adventures and opportunities.
After his first season as a Camp Counselor he was promoted the following season to Assistant Camp Director. Dave worked with several existing and pilot after school programs with youth from a variety of backgrounds hosted by several local and national agencies. Upon completing his BS in Therapeutic Recreation from SUNY Cortland (Central NY) he was offered his first full time position as Program Director with the local YMCA. Dave has since kept a balance spending time in both leadership and front line roles within youth and family serving organizations as to not loose touch with all the reasons he loves his work and how wonderfully exhausting front line work can be.
Outside of camp Dave has also spent time as a Wilderness Therapy Guide, a Bike Trek Leader, Fatherhood Advocate, and Climbing Instructor. Outside of professional work Dave has a been a Volunteer Firefighter for a number of years, and has remained incredibly active in a lifestyle he enjoys, building a closer relationship with the outdoors while running, cycling, climbing both rock and ice, SCUBA diving, kayaking, backpacking, skiing and traveling. Dave has only three states left before he has visited all fifty in the USA.
In 2015, Dave spent a month in China, returning home to adventure in the Pacific Northwest and then spend a season working on Hawaii (the Big Island). After that, he loaded his vehicle to hit the road for a cross-country climbing trip that ended with his first turns of the season skiing in Colorado where he came across an incredible opportunity to Co-Direct a really cool summer camp! None the less, Dave is passionate about life and pumped for another summer at camp!!!
