Invented in 2014 by campers and Trent, this hybrid Marco-Polo meets tag meets cave exploration continues to be one of the most popular camp activities. Marmots are fat and lazy furry animals that live in the high country rocks around Colorado. Whenever they see us they make an “eeeep” sound. In our Marmot Tag high country game (one of a kind to Ajax Adventure Camp), there is one marmot hunter and everyone is is a Marmot. Since the marmots are fat and lazy, they are not allowed to stand on two feet and if they scurry, they have to rest for 30 seconds. Thus marmots must find little caves and rock forts in our marmot tag boulder/cave field to stay away from the Marmot Hunter. However, when the Marmot Hunter “eeeeps” all of the other Marmots have to “eeeep” back. If the Marmot Hunter finds and tags a Marmot, that marmot joins the hunting team until through a battle of attrition, all marmots have been caught. Counselors are pretty good at this game, so campers need to strategize together to get them. Trent is by far the greatest person to ever play. During our staff training days playing the game, Trent can survive for what seems like hours without us catching him (we think he has memorized the entire cave system in the boulder field).
